How to use the Tokoname Kyusu Fukamushi Teapot

Using the Tokoname Kyusu Fukamushi Teapot couldn't be simpler; just follow four basic steps. First, warm up the water, add the leaves to the teapot, pour in the water, and lastly, allow the tea to steep.

  • Step 1

    To heat the water up to the right temperature, you can use an electric kettle. Each type of tea needs a slightly different temperature, and you can check our website for this information.

  • Step 2

    Put 5 grams of tea leaves into the Tokoname Kyusu Fukamushi Teapot. If you want, you can heat the teapot beforehand by pouring in some hot water, waiting for 30 seconds, and then pouring it out.

  • Step 3

    After putting the tea leaves in theTokoname Kyusu Fukamushi Teapot, you can gently pour 150ml of water.

  • Step 4

    Place the lid on the Tokoname Kyusu Fukamushi Teapot and allow the leaves to steep for 1-2 minutes, depending on the tea type. Once the brewing is complete, pour it into your glass, and the built-in filter will prevent leaves from getting into your cup.

  • Step 5

    Once you've steeped the leaves once, you can reuse them for 2-3 more brews. Keep using the same amount of water at the same temperature, but only steep for 20 seconds each time.

  • Step 6

    To make cold-brewed tea in your Tokoname Kyusu Fukamushi Teapot, add 5 grams of tea leaves and 400ml of room temperature or cool water. After letting it sit for 1-3 hours, pour out the teapot and savor your refreshing cold-brewed green tea!

I received my fukamushi kyusu a few days ago. I decided to make some of Mr Sakamoto's gyokuro in and and all I have to say is WOW. This kyusu was definitely made for gyokuro. This kyusu is not only beautiful with its pitch black color but the steel mesh does a fabulous job of keeping the tiny leaf bits from draining into your tea. Heat retention on this one is superb! This one is a must for tea vets. Keep in mind this one isnt glazed so try use it only for the same type of teas.

Tokoname Kyusu Fukamushi Teapot

This kyusu has a round, fine mesh metal filter on the inside, which is just what I was looking for when brewing Fukamushi. It isn't obi-ami, a full 360 degree wrap-around, but it is still an excellent round filter covering the inner wall surrounding the spout. I've been using it for fine-grain teas and it's worked very well! The outside and interior feels painted or glazed to some effect, but I'll admit I can't come up with the term for how it feels. It's different than the unglazed clay I'm used to with other kyusu, but it doesn't quite feel like a glaze. I'm assuming it is unglazed and I'm just inexperienced with the variations in teapots, so just keep that in mind upon purchase that it is unglazed clay.
