Taste
Discover the results of Nio Teas’ 4 step tea tasting method
The Oishi Premium Matcha Saemidori undergoes a complete sensory evaluation based on color, aroma, flavor, and texture. Its complexity and balance make it one of the most luxurious matchas in our collection.
Step 1 - Observing the Appearance
The matcha powder shines in a deep, jade-green hue, dense and vibrant, a hallmark of the Saemidori cultivar. When whisked, it creates a thick, mousse-like foam with microbubbles and a lustrous surface that reveal its richness and freshness.
Step 2 - Assessing the Aroma
The aroma is an intricate blend of marine umami and toasted cereal, evoking the scent of roasted seaweed and freshly steamed rice. There is also a subtle nutty warmth beneath the surface that adds depth to the overall profile.
Step 3 - Tasting the Tea
The first sip delivers a brisk, marine punch that unfolds into a wave of savory umami. Notes of minerals and steamed vegetables rise in the mid-palate, accompanied by hints of roasted hiika (roasted aroma) and nuts. As it settles, the tea softens into a luxurious creaminess. It is never grassy or bitter, only pure and rounded in its richness.
Step 4 - Evaluating the sensation on the palate
The mouthfeel is extraordinary: dense, velvety, and enveloping. The sweetness balances perfectly with the oceanic savoriness, creating a dynamic yet harmonious taste. The finish is long, creamy, and mineral, with lingering vegetal undertones that showcase the full potential of high-grade Saemidori leaves.
100% Organically grown and Ethically Sourced
At Nio Teas, we work only with producers who cultivate their tea plants naturally, without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Mr. Oishi’s fields in Kagoshima are a living example of sustainable agriculture done right, rich in biodiversity and managed with care for both the environment and future generations. This dedication results in teas that are not only healthier but also more vibrant in taste and energy.
How to prepare the tea
To prepare the Oishi Premium Matcha Saemidori, follow these basic steps for optimal results. While you can simplify this process if you prefer, we recommend following these steps to get the best results from your bowl of matcha.
Step 1
Sift 2 grams of matcha powder into your chawan (matcha bowl) to prevent clumping.
Step 2
Heat water to 70°C (160°F).
Step 3
Add a few drops of water to create a smooth paste, then slowly pour in 100ml of water.
Step 4
Pour in 100ml of water, then whisk briskly in a zigzag motion until a creamy foam appears.
Step 5
Using your wrist, whisk the matcha up in rapid zigzag motions until a light green foam appears on top.
Step 6
Enjoy this matcha as usucha (thin tea) or increase the dosage for koicha (thick tea) to experience its full-bodied umami depth.
The Oishi Premium Matcha Saemidori is produced by Mr. Oishi in Kagoshima Prefecture on Kyushu Island. The Oishi family has crafted tea since 1940, combining time-honored technique with modern organic stewardship.
Mr. Oishi’s fields are shaded for several weeks before harvest, allowing the leaves to develop their signature umami concentration. He hand-selects the finest Saemidori leaves and stone-grinds them slowly to preserve the natural aroma and smoothness. The result is a matcha that balances power and refinement, a true reflection of Kagoshima’s mastery of green tea.
Sourced in Kagoshima
Japan
Sourced from Kagoshima, Kyushu Island, an iconic tea region shaped by sea breezes, abundant sunshine, and fertile volcanic ash soils from peaks like Sakurajima. This terroir supports long shading and careful cultivation, yielding a matcha with concentrated umami, minimal bitterness, and a clean, creamy finish.
Cultivar and tea plant variety
This premium matcha is made exclusively from the Saemidori cultivar, celebrated in southern Japan, especially Kagoshima, for its luminous color and natural sweetness.
Saemidori
Saemidori thrives in Kagoshima’s mild climate and mineral-rich volcanic soils, expressing deep umami, rounded sweetness, and a creamy body. In Mr. Oishi’s hands, it becomes a matcha that is nutty, marine, and luxuriously smooth.

Good matcha, but I prefer Oishi Ceremonial Matcha Saemidori.
The color is vibrant, the aroma is so freshening, and the flavor was creamy, not bitter and more lenient towards sweet, and it had a rich umami 🫖✨
I tried it as an usucha and it might even beat a latte.
The product is very wonderful and I hope to provide offers and discounts because you have a very large segment all over the world and sometimes the price is very expensive in shipping and customs
