  • 1. Sift

Tip the full 2g sachet through a sifter into your bowl. Sifting breaks up any clumps the powder has picked up from humidity and static.

  • 2. Heat the water

Heat your water to 70°C / 160°F. If you use water that is too hot, it will bring out bitterness in your matcha.

  • 3. Make a paste

Add a tablespoon of water and work it into a smooth paste. Then pour in 70ml.

  • 4. Mix the matcha

Scrape gently around the sides and base to combine the matcha powder into the water.

  • 5. Whisk

Whisk your matcha in quick zigzags motions using your wrist, not circles, until a fine pale green foam covers the surface.

  • 6. Drink it fresh

Drink it within a minute or two, while the foam still holds.

Nio Teas' Ceremonial Grade Matcha vs Other Brands

The 22 ceremonial grade matchas in this calendar come from small farmers in Kyoto, Shizuoka, Kagoshima and Fukuoka, with the stems and veins removed before the leaf is finely ground. That is what gives them the deep green color, the natural sweetness and the thick, creamy body that coarser, cheaper matcha cannot acheive.

24 Matchas. 15 Different Cultivars.

The lineup includes Okumidori, Yabukita, Saemidori, Tsuyuhikari, Gokou and Ujihikari, plus a few others we'll save as a surprise. Each one carries its own balance of sweetness, umami and green intensity. You will experience an entirely different matcha experience each day, not just a different label.

Sourced from 6 Growing Regions and 9 Small Family Farms

This year's matcha comes from Uji in Kyoto, Makinohara in Shizuoka, Shibushi and Chiran in Kagoshima, Kirishima, and Yame in Fukuoka. Six growing regions and nine small family farms, each with its own soil, altitude and shading tradition, which is why no two days in the box taste the same. Every matcha is bought direct from the grower and packaged fresh in Japan.

Matcha's Taste Profile

Matcha sits at the sweet, umami end of the Japanese tea spectrum, with a fresh green aroma rather than a roasted one. Expect vegetal sweetness, a savory depth through the middle and a smooth, thick finish with no bitterness. The two latte blends run sweeter and rounder, made to stand up to milk.

Matcha Benefits

When you drink matcha, you consume the whole leaf rather than an infusion of it. That means more caffeine and L-theanine for steady, calm energy, plus chlorophyll, antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E and K, and potassium, calcium and iron.

Frequently Asked Questions about our

Matcha Advent Calendar 2026

When will my advent calendar ship?

Your calendar ships in November, as soon as the production run reaches us, and arrives in good time to start on December 1. We will email you with tracking the day it leaves us.

What does pre-order mean, and when am I charged?

Pre-ordering reserves your calendar from a single production run. Payment is taken when you place your order, and your calendar ships in November. It means your gift is handled months before December, and it is the only way to be sure of getting one.

What is inside the box?

A printed sleeve over a dark green storage box with 24 upright compartments, a ribbon pull tab, 24 numbered envelopes, 24 individual foil sachets holding 2g of matcha each, and a printed December countdown calendar. Twenty-two of the matchas are ceremonial grade and two are latte blends.

What makes this advent calendar different from others?

Twenty-four different Japanese matchas, bought direct from growers in Kyoto, Shizuoka, Kagoshima and Fukuoka, all 100% pesticide-free. Every day comes with a tasting card giving the name, origin, water temperature and flavor profile, so you finish December knowing what you actually like.

How should I prepare the matcha from each envelope?

Sift the 2g sachet into a bowl, add 70°C / 160°F water, and whisk. Each tasting card carries the water temperature and guidance for that specific matcha, and the full method is above on this page.

Can I reuse the matcha powder in each envelope?

Each 2g sachet is a single serving. Matcha is whole leaf whisked into the water rather than steeped, so there is nothing left to use a second time.

Is this matcha suitable for beginners?

Yes. Each tasting card walks you through that day's matcha, and tasting 24 side by side is the fastest way to learn what you like. A bowl and a whisk are all you need.

How much matcha is included in each envelope?

2g per day, 24 sachets, 48g / 1.69 oz in total. That is 24 bowls of matcha, one for each day from December 1 to 24.

Can I buy the advent calendar as a gift?

Yes, and pre-ordering means it is wrapped and waiting long before December. It arrives in a printed sleeve over the storage box, so it needs nothing else.

Can I order the advent calendar internationally?

Yes, we ship worldwide. Calendars ship in November and arrive ahead of the holidays. Pre-ordering is the safest way to allow for customs and seasonal delays.

Is there caffeine in the matcha?

Yes. A 2g bowl carries about 34-68mg of caffeine alongside L-theanine, the amino acid that gives matcha its steady, calm-alert feeling rather than a coffee spike.
