Chawan Matcha Bowl
The Matcha Bowl, or Chawan, is a handcrafted clay bowl designed to make whisking matcha easy, with high sides to prevent spills. It has a heavier clay design which conveys a sense of importance, and keeps the matcha warm if it is preheated.
Chashaku Bamboo Spoon
The Chashaku Bamboo Spoon is a single piece of bamboo carved into a spoon shape, designed to make scooping matcha from a cylindrical container like a matcha tin or natsume easy.
Red Tokoname Kyusu
The Red Tokoname Kyusu is a glazed teapot with a metal sifter around the edges, it's perfect for brewing Japanese green tea in the traditional way, providing maximum space for the leaves to open up and release their flavor. It's handmade using high quality clay from Tokoname, the most famous area for teaware production in Japan.
How to Prepare the Leaf Tea
Add 5 grams of tea leaves to the kyusu teapot and pour in 150ml of hot water. Make sure to check the specific temperature on the product page of each tea, as the optimal temperature and brewing time can change between Gyokuro, Sencha, Hojicha and Oolong.
After the brewing time is up, you can pour out the kyusu teapot and enjoy a delicious cup of Japanese green tea! If you want to pour tea for another person, make sure you use the alternate pouring method so you each get the same tea flavor!
You can reuse the tea leaves 2-3 more times at the same temperature and a brewing time of only 20 seconds.

How to Prepare the Matcha
Use the bamboo tea spoon to scoop 1-2 grams of matcha powder into the Chawan tea bowl and then add in 10ml of warm water. This is just enough water to form a paste, and smooth out any clumps that might form in the matcha using your bamboo whisk.
Once the matcha paste has been created, you can then add an additional 90ml of water (100ml total) to the bowl and begin to mix it with your bamboo whisk. Begin by scraping off the sides of the bowl to combine the powder and water together and then quickly whisk in rapid zigzag motions using your wrist. In a few seconds, you should notice a bright green foam appear in your matcha which is exactly what you want as it will create a lighter and airier texture and a smoother taste.
You can then either drink the matcha directly out of the bowl just as they do in the Japanese tea ceremony, or you can pour it into a glass.
