This Chawan Hagoromo is the perfect blend of austere earthenware and abstract design. The minimalist white brush stroke interrupts an otherwise simple canvas of clay and adds a touch of elegance to the piece. The Chawan Hagoromo is carefully finished with a light glaze that adds a smooth texture to the bowl.
How to use the Chawan Hagoromo
To make a bowl of matcha, all you need to do is sift the matcha powder into the Chawan Hagoromo bowl, pour in the water, and whisk the tea.
Step 1
Begin by placing a sifter over the Chawan Hagoromo. Add 2 grams or 1 teaspoon of powder into the sifter and sift it through until you achieve a finely sifted layer of powder at the bottom.
Step 2
Warm up some water to a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit or 70 degrees Celsius.
Step 3
Add a small quantity of warm water to the powder in the Chawan Hagoromo and blend until you obtain a smooth paste without any clumps.
Step 4
Pour 100ml of water between 160-175 degrees Fahrenheit and combine it with the paste, gently stirring it in while scraping the sides of the Chawan Hagoromo to ensure thorough mixing.
Step 5
It's time to whisk up your matcha bowl with quick zigzag motions using your wrist. With sufficient practice, you should be able to create a light green foam on top of the matcha, resulting in a smoother consistency and taste.
Step 6
Enjoy your bowl of matcha! You can either drink it directly out of the Chawan Hagoromo or pour it into a mug.

Made out of premium raw materials
This Chawan Hagoromo is a premium tea bowl made out of quartz, feldspar and clay from Gifu prefecture. Gifu has had a reputation for producing some of the best clay in the country since ancient times. This particular bowl was made in Ame-yu style. Ameyuu is a type of iron glaze that turns brown when fired with oxidation. This brown color is called "ame-iro,'' which is where the name "ame-glaze'' comes from.
Benefits of the Chawan Hagoromo
Using this Chawan Hagoromo bowl for matcha preparation offers numerous advantages. Its steeper sides simplify tea whisking, reducing the risk of spills. The thick clay not only imparts a sense of significance to the tea ceremony but also helps retain the warmth of the matcha when preheated.
