Learn all the secrets of the Chawan Ao-Uzumaki

Beneath the minimalist style of the Chawan Ao-Uzumaki lies layers of intricacy. While each handmade piece is slightly different, you will notice a complex color gradient due to the combination of glazes and oxidized clay. This tea bowl is smooth to the touch with each tea session you will notice more small details on this carefully crafted tea bowl.

How to use the Chawan Ao-Uzumaki

Preparing a matcha bowl is easy, simply sift the matcha powder into the Chawan Ao-Uzumaki bowl, add water, and whisk up the tea with your bamboo whisk.

    Step 1

    Position a sifter over the matcha bowl and add 2 grams or 1 teaspoon of powder. Push it through the sifter until you have a finely sifted layer of powder at the bottom of the Chawan Ao-Uzumaki bowl.

    Step 2

    Bring the water to a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit or 70 degrees Celsius.

    Now, introduce a tiny amount of warm water to the powder and mix in the Chawan Ao-Uzumaki until you create a smooth paste with no clumps.

    Add 100ml of water between 160-175 degrees Fahrenheit to the paste, gently blending it in and scraping the sides of the Chawan Ao-Uzumaki bowl to ensure it's completely combined.

    Now, whisk your matcha rapidly with zigzag motions using your wrist. With practice, you'll achieve a light green foam on the matcha, enhancing its smooth consistency and taste.

Made out of premium raw materials

The Chawan Ao-Uzumaki is made out of premium Gifu clay, a region that has been famous for producing high quality pottery since ancient times. This particular bowl is made using the Kinyō style, which is a Chinese style. The milky white color and trace amounts of iron are reduced to give it a bluish tint, which, when mixed with the reddish copper, gives it a pale purple appearance.
