The black kyusu is a sleek and elegant piece of teaware that is perfect for preparing premium Japanese leaf teas like sencha and gyokuro. This teapot features a slight glaze, a hollow side handle for easy pouring and a built in metal sifter to keep the leaves out of your cup.
How to use the Black Kyusu
Using the black kyusu is simple, you just need to follow 4 basic steps. First, you heat up the water, add the leaves to the teapot, pour the water into the teapot and finally let the tea brew.
Step 1
Use an electric kettle to heat the water up to the desired temperature. Each tea requires a slightly different temperature, and you can it on our website.
Step 2
Add 5 grams of tea leaves into the teapot. You can preheat the teapot before adding the leaves by pouring some of the hot water in, waiting 30 seconds and then pouring it out.
Step 3
Once the tea leaves have been added to the teapot, you can gently pour in 150ml of water
Step 4
Put the lid onto the teapot and let the leaves brew for 1-2 minutes. 1 minute works well for most sencha teas, while 2 minutes is ideal for Gyokuro. After the tea is done brewing, you can pour it out into your glass and the built in filter will keep the leaves from pouring into your cup.
Step 5
After you have infused the leaves once, you can still use them 2-3 more times. Use the same temperature water, the same amount of water but only 20 seconds for each subsequent brewing.
Step 6
If you want to cold brew tea in your teapot, you can add in 5 grams of tea leaves and 400ml of room temperature or cool water. After 1-3 hours you can pour out the teapot and enjoy your refreshing cold brewed green tea!
This Black Kyusu is handmade in Japan by skilled Japanese artisans using traditional scultpting and glazing techniques. Each teapot is made according to a precise set of measurements, but there may be slight variability and each one can be considered a unique piece.
Made out of premium Japanese Tokoname clay
Clay from Tokoname, Japan is considered to be the best material for Kyusu teapots. It has a vibrant color and a low porosity, making it perfect for holding water. When this clay is carefully sculpted and glazed, it creates an elegant design that is sure to bring a touch of authenticity and tradition to your tea routine.
Benefits of the Black Kyusu
There are many benefits of using this teapot. First, it will allow the leaves more space to expand and release their flavor into the water. This separates it from the tea strainer, which can cramp the tea leaves into a smaller space and produce less of a rich flavor. Also, the built in side handle makes it easy to pour the tea with just a simple turn of the wrist. Finally, the teapot has a built in filter which separates out the tea leaves from the water and quickly stops the infusion.
Where is the kyusu produced?
