Mr. Henta is a very talented sencha farmer in the Kirishima region of southern Japan. Although he has a relatively small farm, he grows a vast array of tea breeds or cultivars. He then carefully blends them together to create different senchas and matchas. In this set, you will get the opportunity to try a few different teas from Mr. Henta and have a great introduction into the world of tea cultivars. The Henta Sencha is his blend of 8 different cultivars, carefully crafted to deliver a little bit of everything into the taste. We then have 3 different single cultivar teas for you to experiment with. The round and fruity Okumidori, the Sweet Umami Saemidori and the Asanoka with a slight dryness and beautiful cereal note. This is a great way to see how just by simply changing the type of tea used, you can yield vastly different flavors. We also include the Henta Matcha, a premium Saemidori matcha with a light sweetness and smooth creaminess to it.

Okumidori Sencha 100g:

Of the 3 single cultivar sencha teas, this one is the most round and fruity. You may get hints of strawberry on the noise, with a nice full-bodied mango and papaya flavor. There is a little bit of umami towards the aftertaste but it is very subtle.

Steep for 1 minute at 75 degrees C 167 degrees F. Can be steeped 2-3 more times for 20 seconds each

Saemidori Sencha 100g:

The Saemidori sencha is very sweet and rich in its umami flavor profile. The liquor is thicker and a little bit syrupy, indicating that the theanine is quite high. It is savory but still very sweet.

Steep for 1 minute at 75 degrees C 167 degrees F. Can be steeped 2-3 more times for 20 seconds each

Asanoka Sencha 100g:

This Asanoka sencha is a sweeter tea that directly shows a little bit of a smoky, cereal wooden note. There is not a lot of a grassy flavor in this tea and it has a stronger cereal profile that develops over time. It heads into a smoky or roasted direction even though it is not a roasted tea.

Steep for 1 minute at 75 degrees C 167 degrees F. Can be steeped 2-3 more times for 20 seconds each

Henta Matcha 30g:

The Saemidori is coming more and more in vogue, thanks to its light sweetness with a slight grassy undertone. Compared to an Okumidori matcha, the Henta Matcha is much sweeter, with a slightly fresher taste. Compared to a Yabukita Matcha, this tea is smoother, more delicate and sweeter. You will notice a light sweetness right away, followed by an umami note towards the end, with some notes of fresh cut grass.

Whisk 1 gram of powder into 150ml of water at 175 degrees F/ 80 degrees C

Henta Sencha 100g:

This sencha is a blend of the cultivars 8 cultivars including Asatsuyu, Okumidori and Saemidori. From these three cultivars, it inherits a beautiful sweetness, a round smoothness and a mouth-watering grassy note towards the end. The liquor of this tea is a light yellow, but is a bit thicker, similar to the mouthfeel of a Gyokuro. Even though this tea has a strong taste profile to it, it carries no bitterness at all. You may notice notes of sweet corn, fresh-cut grass and a nice citrusy note in the end.

Steep for 1 minute at 75 degrees C 167 degrees F. Can be steeped 2-3 more times for 20 seconds each
