This matcha comes from the Gokou cultivar. Typically, this is a premium cultivar of matcha, known for its nice round sweetness and umami flavor. If you like a sweeter matcha, this is the best option for you to try. Compared to the Washimine, this tea is sweeter and more full-bodied. It is a very well balanced and flavorful matcha with almost no astringency. The taste is pretty fast, but it finishes with a round creamy flavor in the end.
The tea is produced in Shizuoka, high up in the mountains in an area that exclusively grows organic tea. We visited these tea farms in April 2019 to see the fields and factories where it was produced in person.
Preparation: 1-1.5g per 150ml; 80 degrees Celsius
