In this matcha sampler, you'll get to try 4 fantastic ceremonial matchas from the area around Kyoto. We have 2 incredible matchas from Mr. Nakai in Wazuka and the other two are new premium matchas from the area of Uji.

Matcha Tea Nakai Superior 30g

This matcha lures you in with a smooth vegetal flavor and later introduces these more complex savory taste profiles. The savory notes are more on the marine side, drifting off into the direction of ocean breeze and seaweed. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy, with a milky finish and no astringency.

30g Chanoka Okumidori

This first harvest, ceremonial grade matcha comes to us from Uji, perhaps the most famous area for tea cultivation in Japan. For hundreds of years, Uji was known to produce the best matcha in Japan, and that reputation still carries on to this day. This tea has been shaded for 20 days to create a rich savory flavor, and because its from the Okumidori cultivar, it has a smoother, more well-rounded flavor with less bitterness. The tea has a tiny but of astringency towards the end, but it is well-balanced by the thick and rich mouthfeel.

30g Chanoka Silver Matcha

This matcha starts off strong with a bold savory flavor and a thick mouthfeel. It gets right to the point with these strong umami flavors that evolve over time. The strong vegetable notes of this matcha are balanced out by the heavy creaminess of the tea. The finish is strong on these savory seaweed and baby spinach notes but without any astringency. This is a very well balanced matcha that lacks bitterness without lacking power. The combination of strength and smoothness of this matcha is unrivaled, and it makes a great addition to our lineup.

40g Matcha Washimine

The matcha made by Mr. Nakai comes from the cultivar Okumidori. This superior cultivar is reserved for high-grade Gyokuro, Sencha and matcha. The excellence of this matcha comes from its very round and complete taste with a balance of creaminess, a full body and a fine silky note of fresh spinach and a hint of asparagus. The resulting tea produces a very well-rounded taste with no bitterness. Because of its supreme quality, this matcha is also used for koicha, a thick paste made from only the highest grade matcha.

Meet the Farmer

This tea comes to us from Mr. Nakai in Wazuka. Mr. Nakai is a talented young farmer that specializes in sencha, but he also produces some excellent matcha as well. His father is credited with creating the JAS logo, which is pictured on every pack of green tea that has been certified by Japanese Agricultural Standards.

About the Farm

This farm is located in Wazuka, right outside the old capital of Kyoto. This region is famous for the production of matcha tea. Powdered tea was the original way to consume matcha in Japan, and the first tea plants to be cultivated in Japan were grown right outside Kyoto at Kozanji temple in the Toganoo mountains.

How to Brew it

Add 2 grams of matcha to a bowl and then pour in 100-150ml of 160-175F water. You can then scrape off the sides of the bowl and begin whisking with you matcha whisk

Very Popular as a Gift

Our fans like to give away our teas on birthdays, weddings and other special days! Our samplers are highly recommended as gifts!

Always Pesticide Free

We make sure to only source teas from reputable farmers that grow tea without the use of conventional pesticides or chemicals. We meet with the farmers in person and tour the fields and facilities. We look at the sustainability of the field, the attention to detail and quality control of the facility and of course the taste of the tea.
