Our most extensive sencha sampler yet! In this one set, you will get 9 very different senchas from all over Japan. This is a great way to expand your palate and properly experience the most common type of green tea in Japan. Sencha is also a very diverse group of teas. Here you will have the opportunity to experience the whole spectrum of sweet, savory, grassy, astringent, vegetal and fruity flavors that these wonderful teas have to offer.

Included in the Sampler:

Kasugaen Golden Sencha 5g: This premium sencha is made from the finest tips of the tea plant, delivering plenty of nutrients to the tea. The flavor is powerful, complex and smooth. Normally, a Yabukita sencha would produce more of a grassy flavor, but this one is more well balanced. It begins with a strong savory flavor which later allows space for these powerful edamame and baby spinach notes. The tea has some subtle fruity notes to it, which pick up in the second steeping. In the second steeping of this tea, you will notice a tropical, citrusy note similar to that of grapefruit and banana. This tea is quite an experience, and the well-seasoned sencha drinkers will certainly appreciate both the power and complexity of this tea.

Henta Sencha 5g: This tea comes to us from the farm Henta Seicha, a tea field owned by Mr. Henta. We met Mr. Henta and toured his fields in March and learned so much about the methods he uses to judge the quality of a tea. We also got to taste a few of the teas he produced and this was one of our favorites!

Henta Okumidori Sencha 5g: Of the 3 single cultivar sencha teas, this one is the most round and fruity. You may get hints of strawberry on the noise, with a nice full-bodied mango and papaya flavor. There is a little bit of umami towards the aftertaste but it is very subtle.

Henta Asanoka Sencha 5g: This Asanoka sencha is a sweeter tea that directly shows a little bit of a roasted, cereal wooden note. There is not a lot of a grassy flavor in this tea and it has a stronger cereal profile that develops over time. It heads into a  roasted direction even though it is not a roasted tea.

Sencha Isagawa 5g: Because this tea comes from the mountains, it grows in very rocky, mineral-rich soil. The tea has a very nice mineral flavor to it with a nice lingering astringency. The tea is quite light and mild with a beautiful aftertaste. The infusion is a cloudy greenish-yellow that gets lighter with each steeping.

Kasugaen Asatsuyu Sencha 5g: This tea comes from the Asatsuyu cultivar, known for its natural sweet and umami flavor. The name means "precious dew" and it is sometimes referred to as a "natural Gyokuro" because it picks up a pleasant sweet and savory taste even without being shaded. This tea comes from southern Japan, where it is nourished by a warm subtropical climate, heavy rainfall and rich volcanic soils.

Fukamushi Yamaga 5g: This is a blended Fukamushi sencha from Shizuoka. this has quickly become one of our most popular teas due to its distinct fruity note. You may notice that the tea picks up a nice lychee note, even a slight note of papaya. This fruity flavor is even easier to notice when the tea is cold brewed, making it an excellent choice in the summertime.

Murasaki Sencha 5g: This tea is coming from the Yutaka Midori, a name that translates to "abundant green". This is known as the ideal cultivar for Fukamushi senchas, but it is quite sensitive to frost. Luckily, it is produced in the south of Japan, where it benefits from the mild climate and rich volcanic soils. The tea produces a sweet and full-bodied flavor with subtle notes of banana and mango.

Henta Saemidori Sencha 5g: This is a single cultivar sencha from the region of Kirishima. This tea is made from the Saemidori cultivar, known for being one of the sweetest and typically reserved for Gyokuro. With partial shading and deep steaming, this tea really brings a sweet and savory note to the palate that could rival even some of the better Gyokuro. The liquor is dense and sweet, bringing a powerful flavor that glides over the top of the tongue.
