All you need to know about Gyokuro Cha Musume

The Organic Gyokuro Cha Musume is currently our most popular and most loved green tea. We thought we'd write a short article to explain what the tea is and where it comes from.

In Japanese, "Gyokuro" translates to "Precious Dew" and it is the finest quality tea in Japan. Gyokuro is a shade-grown tea, which means that it is covered for part of the growing process. What makes Gyokuro special is that it is shaded for much longer than other teas, even Kabusecha. This allows the leaves to produce a deep hue of green and a sweet umami taste that is unrivaled in the world of tea.

Gyokuro Cha Musume is one of our most popular teas, and it is easy to see why. This Gyokuro has a straight-to-the-point Umami flavor that is more powerful than other Gyokuro teas on the market. This Gyokuro Cha Musume is also an Organic Gyokuro, which is quite rare. It is quite difficult for farmers to produce a Gyokuro using organic fertilization methods.

Who Makes Our Organic Gyokuro?

Luckily our farmer, Mr. Sakamoto, is a very skilled tea craftsman. He uses his own brand of organic fertilizer that not only makes the tea plants grow strong and healthy, but they are also able to produce a ton of sweet umami flavor during the shading process. The soil he uses is extra soft and deep, to allow the roots of the tea plant plenty of room to spread out and take in nutrients from the earth. This results in one of the best cups of tea I have ever tasted!

Where Does Our Organic Gyokuro Come From?

Currently, all three of our Gyokuro teas come from the island of Kagoshima in the south of Japan. This island has a nice warm tropical climate that is the perfect environment for these amazing teas. It is always a pleasure to visit the tea farms of Kagoshima and we always learn something new.
